Content Spinning
daybreak | June 10, 2010 | 2:56 pm | Opinions | 2 Comments

Owning a family of websites and blogs in addition to writing content for Squidoo and other web 2.0 projects leaves many of us spread thin in terms of being able to write original content.

While some copywriters are strict about content duplication, others find it useful to create several variations of an article, each getting its own tweaking based on its destination.

My inspiration to write often comes from my kitchen rampages when fish, seafood and other fresh ingredients get hurled about, occasionally overdone but always enjoyed. This passion for food and all things outdoor-related is something that is very easy to write about and lends itself to “article spinning”.

Recently we had stuffed fish for dinner and I decided to create an article which could be customized for a family of sites and other destinations. In addition to the publication of the article in its full form, I chose to add snippets on several Squidoo lenses.

Here is the original article:

Stuffed Virginia Flounder

A variation:

Rockfish with Crab Meat

The recipe itself:

Stuffed Flounder Recipe

Who else has experimented with recycling and modifying content?

What were your results?

Food Lovers WebRemember the movie Field of Dreams? I know it doesn’t have anything to do with food, it’s the quote people. If you build it

Well from my experience they won’t just come…it takes cajoling and  a little bit of elbow grease. People also want to know what’s in it for them…eek that looks harsh when it’s written in black and white – harsh truth though. Okay so <—that banner over there (go ahead click on it!)  is my (and Rajays) new baby that grand opened 01/2010.  For the Internet realm it really is a baby – why do I feel so impatient?

Well, #1 that’s just me, #2 it’s such a cool food site I thought everybody would just migrate there, and #3 with the organic search results we’ve been getting I thought you woulda found it by now! When I’m passionate about something and get edgy with impatience…it’s time to take action! Today I did just that and it felt so damn good.

I started visiting Squidoo lenses by searching for keywords for the recipes and food links I wanted to add to the site and left the lensmaster a note about why I loved linking their lens to the site…with an invitation to join. See why I felt like I accomplished something today? Or maybe you think I’m nuts, no worries I have been accused of that before ;)

fried green tomatoes

There is nothing more mouth-watering then Fried Green Tomatoes! If you haven’t tried em’ you just have to…seriously. If you know what I’m talkin’ about then there is not much more explainin’ other than the recipe name and mouth-watering put together to get the pan heated up and ready to fry up these Southern family faves!

Interesting discovery tonight, hidden deep in the recipe archives of Squidoo. Who knows what made me type in Fried Green Tomatoes in the search box to find this beauty – it’s probably the wee hour and not being able to sleep. Anywho enough about me, promise you’ll appreciate what lensmaster xiaohuaz offers up on her lens Green Fried Tomatoes. This lens serves up the recipe, a few other tidbits and that’s ’bout it. Who needs all the other fluff – the showcase is the Fried Green Tomahtoy’s already…right?

Enjoy every juicy, tart, salty, yummy bite of this comfort food ;)

Piecrustophobia, Huh?
Correen (clouda9) | September 28, 2009 | 4:50 pm | Lens Review | 1 Comment

Tammy’s (aka: azpoppy) been looking ’round my lenses this morning so I thought I would take a look at her profile…I had not ‘met’ her before ;)

Happy as ever to find her Easy Peasy Pie Crust lens – admit wholeheartedly I’ve had piecrustophobia for years – I won’t get into the gorey details though.

Assuming there have to be others with the same issues about making pie crust – this lens is sure to solve your our dilemma!

Let her know Squid Report sent ya ;)

Gran’s Inspired Me!

First DateTomatoe’s First Date

Wasn’t sure if anyone would see the  SquidReport Me page here  on the blog, so imagine my surprise when I received a nice note from new lensmaster, Grace (aka: beingsustainable).

Seems Grace and I have something in common – we love the lessons our grandmother’s have taught us, especially when it comes to cooking. Of the three lenses Grace has created I was really eating up Canning Tomatoes Gran’s Way!

Stirred my thinking about the goodness of creative cooking – adding something to your pantry that you made. If she had added an Amazon Search module with pressure cookers I may have felt the impulse to buy one for my kitchen ;)

Beside a few design issues, I really appreciate what Grace is sharing on Squidoo. Show a newbie some love – visit her lens and join her fanclub – I’d love to see her stickin’ around Squidoo!
