Internet Archive

The Internet Archive – Universal access to all knowledge…I just have to share this with you.

Felt just like a kid as I applied for my virtual library card, then spent the better part of two hours discovering and reading old books that have been scanned into the archive. Besides books, this coolest of places on the Internet has a whole array of media types that include:

  • The Wayback Machine: type in a web address and it takes you back to old archived dates of the pages. Oh my gosh I found old websites that I created and are long gone.
  • Moving Images: animation, sports, news – you name it you’ll find it archived one way or another.
  • Audio: think podcasts, music, news…they even have a special Grateful Dead archive of files.
  • Plus so much more – you have to see it to believe it.

In December, 2009 the Library of Congress announced a project undertaking to mass digitize brittle books. “Almost 60,000 are available now and more are scanned every day. These books are in the public domain and come with no restrictions on their use. Feel free to harvest, index, investigate, and re-use.” ~Forum Announcement

Sparked by all of this information at my fingertips, I’m looking forward to researching and finding new discoveries! Do you have a virtual library card yet? Here’s the link – Internet Archive – see ya in the food and cooking aisle ;)

day in the life: lunch money

Sometimes it’s hard to find the nitty gritty money talk on Squidoo without wading through tons of ‘poor me crap’ or stats from someone else when you just need the down low. Here is a copy/paste about lensrank payout dated 12/2008: (This needs to be updated  in my opinion)

  • –Tier One: Lenses with an average LensRank of #1 to #2,000 get 25% of the ad pool.
  • –Tier Two: Lenses with an average LensRank of #2,001 to #10,000 get 17% of the ad pool.
  • –Tier Three: Lenses with an average LensRank of #10,001 to #85,000 get 8% of the ad pool
  • –Last Tier (the Zero Tier): Lenses with an average LensRank more than #85,000 get 0% of the ad pool. (But are, of course, still eligible to get 50% of any directly attributable sales they make. Just not a cut of the community ad pool).

Food Lovers WebRemember the movie Field of Dreams? I know it doesn’t have anything to do with food, it’s the quote people. If you build it

Well from my experience they won’t just come…it takes cajoling and  a little bit of elbow grease. People also want to know what’s in it for them…eek that looks harsh when it’s written in black and white – harsh truth though. Okay so <—that banner over there (go ahead click on it!)  is my (and Rajays) new baby that grand opened 01/2010.  For the Internet realm it really is a baby – why do I feel so impatient?

Well, #1 that’s just me, #2 it’s such a cool food site I thought everybody would just migrate there, and #3 with the organic search results we’ve been getting I thought you woulda found it by now! When I’m passionate about something and get edgy with impatience…it’s time to take action! Today I did just that and it felt so damn good.

I started visiting Squidoo lenses by searching for keywords for the recipes and food links I wanted to add to the site and left the lensmaster a note about why I loved linking their lens to the site…with an invitation to join. See why I felt like I accomplished something today? Or maybe you think I’m nuts, no worries I have been accused of that before ;)

Cannot close without giving you the best points about Food Lovers Web
