A Real Angel – 24websurf!
Correen (clouda9) | August 26, 2009 | 4:50 pm | Interviews, Lensmasters | 10 Comments
Your Girl FridayHolley’s wicked sense of humor keeps me on my toes :) I bet you didn’t know that she spends most of her Saturday’s or wee-in-the-morning hours surfing around Squidoo – leaving her comments and stardust. Yep, she does! I think she would be a perfect party planner – offline and a loving angel – on Squidoo.

So to those of you that know Holley, aka: 24websurf online make sure to give your hello here. And for those of you that don’t know her…whatcha’ waiting for? Read on…

So Why Squidoo?

When I found Squidoo, I was like most, looking for that elusive pot of internet gold. What I found were friends and I am currently richer than I have ever been! They give freely of their time. They push me to give my best effort. Some have even held my hand, wrapped their Giant tentacles around me and provided warmth and security through my darkest nights of creating. These are true friends. I have found them here at Squidoo.

Who is the one person in your life that inspires you? Why?

In real life, off the internet, it would be my mother. My mom ROCKS! She has always taught me to be independent. To make my way on my own as best I could without relying on others to pay for my ticket to ride. She was also a pioneer in the mostly mans world of computers and communications. She learned programming when most people had never even heard of computers. This woman has always been a forward thinker. Always the fashion diva, she has never been afraid to wear loud colors and bold prints. She fascinates me.

What is something you would jump up on a soapbox about?

With the number of things I see these days, it would be hard to choose just one. The one word, “ABUSE”, encompasses many things. The abuse of people young, old, and everyone in between and abuse of animals are my main concerns. WE as a people should learn that it is NOT all about one single person. When you speak, think how you would feel if someone said those very same words to you or your child. Then…DON’T SAY THEM! Freedom of speech does NOT give you the right to verbally abuse others. Show some class and remember your manners.

Where do you get your great sense of humor?

Thank you for the compliment, Correen! My mother calls my sense of humor something quite different. It usually stems from sarcasm ;) Instead of saying something mean, I try to not to alienate people. I want to make people laugh. I love the sound of laughter, unless you sound like “Janice” on the TV show “Friends”.

Things to know about me:
♥ I am a nice person. I expect people to be nice. When they are not, I can do a 360 in a heartbeat ;)
♥ I hate cameras. I run when I see one.
♥ I have a food allergy to any form of fowl. I love it, but it hates me.

Ideas Emanating from Person's BrainBringing You Bright Ideas!

I love using the photos and graphics from AllPosters.com to add content to my lenses. Don’t be fearful of all the gobble-dee-gook on the page, it’s here to illustrate some points to consider when using the links from AllPosters.com. I think it will help you add great photos and graphics to your lenses too! Here we go ;)

As an affiliate of AllPosters.com the text below is what you will see when you use the LinkBuilder–>ProductLinks–>Build Links–>Choose Static buttons. Rather then just placing it on your page as is, you can change a few things a bit without affecting your affiliate code.

SCRUNCH THE CODE TOGETHER: Title will be under the poster, rather then 6-10 spaces below (<– indicates a backspace). Make sure not to backspace over any code that will mess with the link and image…been there done that!

CENTER YOUR POSTER ON A LENS: It just looks prettier ;) Red text indicates what you add to center your poster.

<p align=”center”><a class=”APCTitleAnchor”href=”http://affiliates.allposters.com…the rest of the AllPosters code Giant Squid Strangle the Life out of Commerce”>Buy at AllPosters.com</a><BR>and then at the end close with..</span> </p>

TITLE YOUR POSTER: Instead of using the title “Buy At AllPosters.com”, think about adding something inspiring or fitting to your lens. This is how you do it and the red underlined text shows you how.

<a class=”APCTitleAnchor” href=”http://affiliates.allposters.com/link/redirect.asp?item=3331216&AID=1629054209&PSTID=1&LTID=2〈=1″ target=”_blank” title=”Monopolies Represented Here by a Giant Squid Strangle the Life out of Commerce”><img src=”http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/MEPOD/10094769.jpg” alt=”Monopolies Represented Here by a Giant Squid Strangle the Life out of Commerce” border=”0″ height=”300″ width=”400″></a><img src=”http://tracking.allposters.com/allposters.gif?AID=1629054209&PSTID=1&LTID=2〈=1″ border=”0″ height=”1″ width=”1″><BR><span ><a class=”APCTitleAnchor” href=”http://affiliates.allposters.com/link/redirect.asp?item=3331216&AID=1629054209&PSTID=1&LTID=2&lang=1″ target=”_blank” title=”Monopolies Represented Here by a Giant Squid Strangle the Life out of Commerce”>Buy at AllPosters.com</a><BR></span>

IMPORTANT NOTES:
Once you have found the poster/s for your lens or website click on Get HTML, a new window will pop up with the poster. These are a few ideas that I use to generate the HTML for my poster:

~ Select Your Website
~ Select Tracking, if you have that in place
~ Choose ‘large’ radio button
~ Make sure all other radio buttons are ‘No’
~ Update then copy/paste HTML

Is It Really That Hard To Be Humble?

Have you ever been to a lens that drowns out the ‘content’ with me, me, me? You know the Follow Me on Twitter, oh here’s a link to my blog, and btw these are my other lenses. Personally, I find it distracting, rarely leave a message, plus it makes me head on outta there. We want to read what ‘you said’ you were writing about, not a self advertisement. If anyone has ever heard of a bait and switch, that’s what it feels like to me.

Shout out…please hear this! Put your me, me, me at the end of the lens…if people like your content they’ll be more apt to click on a link to find out more about what makes you tick. Fill your lensmaster profile with me, me, me, there are a lot of tools on there to promote your other ventures besides Squidoo. Make a lensography or two or three…that’s fair game to make yourself shine.

Let’s move on, write good content and leave the me, me, me ’schtuff’ where it’s not so darn distracting!

PLEASE WATCH ~Hard to be Humble~ It made me smile!

Did You Know – Amazon Search Module

Your Girl Friday BlogAs a new addition to the blog I’m gonna post little snippets of information about building lenses, as well as other ideas about how-to Squidoo!

Now with that said, here’s my first snippet of info, it’s about the Amazon Search module. Easy smeezie ;) Wondering what is on the Amazon Search module before you hit publish? While creating or editing a lens:

  • fill out the module, click on save
  • hit refresh or reload button on your browser
  • wait for the page to reload
  • then scroll to the Amazon Search module you’ve added
  • Voila’! Rinse and repeat if the results don’t show or are not what you expected.

Fittin’ Into a Niche’

Your Girl Friday BlogWander around Squidoo long enough and you’ll run into some real angels. Shortly after joining the Rocket Mom’s group it was by happenstance that I ran into Shannon (shajo). We’ve been online friends since…wish she didn’t live so far away or we’d be having lunch, talkin’ ’bout life and Squidoo ;)

As the next best thing I sent Shannon a few questions, read on to get more insight into this wonderful lens ‘mastress’!

I just had to ask this one…lol! Why Squidoo? I started out with Squidoo to try and make some extra money but I found a whole lot more than I expected. Squidoo is a place to express myself and be creative. Squidoo also has an awesome community of lensmasters who are always there to support you, answer your questions, give you advice, and help you become a better lensmaster. I’ve met some of the most wonderful and interesting people from all over the United States and around the world. Squidoo is just plain fun!

Your Girl Friday BlogInquiring minds want to know… How did you come up with your niche lenses? My niche is the Pittsburgh Steelers. I’m a huge fan so it seemed only natural to create lenses about my favorite team. Go Steelers!

We are partners on the Rocket Mom’s Photo of the Week group and have been exchanging photos back and forth since our online friendship began. What inspires you to take pictures? I know you’ve heard that song “Everything is beautiful in it’s own way”, well, everything is beautiful and I love to capture that in a picture. Whether it’s my kids making a funny face, a catipillar crossing a log, or a ripe, juicy strawberry, the pictures mold that beauty and that moment into something tangible that I can share with others.

Had to toss in a Barbara Walters type question…ha! If you had one thing to ‘do over’ today, what would it be? I can’t say I would do anything over. I believe God has a plan for me, through his plan I have been challenged and I have endured difficult times but I have learned from every single one of them and they make me the person that I am today.

Just cuz most gals love some kind of sweet, well at least I do ;) What is your favorite flavor of candy? It would have to be orange. I love those orange flavored hard candy sticks you get from the candy store.

You gotta see Shannon’s recent vaca with great photos and tips on visiting Duck, NC! Duck NC Beach Vacation

Now it’s your turn. Drop a note, Shannon and I would love to hear from you :)
