In The Arms of an Angel

Have you been visited by an angel lately? On Squidoo that is, although I’m into hearing about the celestial beings too. Well I thought it would be cool to compile a list of things that our sweeties love or don’t when flying around our lenses. Soak it in and get onto building your masterpiece!

  • The coolest thing I’ve heard today is that Angels are doing so much more than blessing lenses… they’re also adding those lenses to StumbleUpon, Delicious, rating them, etc. JaguarJulie
  • It’s okay to sell things on Squidoo… in fact, it’s highly encouraged. I love to visit commercial lenses, if they’re done properly. But when I see a lens introduction bogged down with hyperlinks to other non-Squidoo sites, my interest declines rapidly. Save those for later, and place them sporadically and tastefully throughout your lens. The same goes for requests for star ratings, favoriteing, lensrolling, etc. Put these toward the bottom of your lens, preferably near your guestbook. KimGiancaterino
  • Improving a lens is like swimming against the current. Once you stop it’ll float downstream Squidster
  • Overall, I want to be drawn into the lens. I look for visual appeal, original content, variety, and please, please replace all of the default headers with your own! In most cases the lens should have a guestbook, and do avoid including ads that have nothing to do with your subject. Susan52
  • I like lenses that flow nicely and that are very easy to read and understand. Janet21
  • I appreciate a good introductory paragraph, a lensmaster bio and graphic or pic, well developed content and links to references and resources. Rockycha
  • Please remember before taking offense at any well-intentioned comments that suggest you make changes to your “baby” that Squid Angels are only trying to help beautify the Squidoo community. You are under no obligation to make changes; there is no penalty if you choose not to. What we offer is only friendly advice, yours to take or leave at will. XP
  • Nope, Angels are not required to give editorial reviews of lenses that are posted in the Angels forum. But if they’d like to, they can. SemperFidelis
  • Content and aesthetics. Jeffwend
  • I have a hard time blessing lenses with no guest book. I like to have my say, so I love to leave comments.Barkeley
  • Put a little Love and Soul into it!! :-) TheInfamous7

Beautiful Angel

  • Something original and beautiful. boredofeducation
  • I love to explore other people’s “take” on a large variety of subjects and I respect their opinions. That’s all I have for my life, too – my opinions. I hope to be inspired to change my opinions often, as I learn and grow within this generous community of authors. chefkeem
  • A spirit of sharing, informing and facilitation. No coercion. BigJim
  • I want to see great material that is original and well researched or thought out. Lenses with good content, a mixture of modules (that fit the topic), and some nicely placed images will always catch my eye. crystalbooth
  • I like to see a lens with content and with a focus. Present something different than others have done, or present it in a different way. KAB
  • As important, if not more important than giving good lenses a boost is giving SPAM the thumbs down. When I’m on Angelic Missions, I’m looking mostly for garbage to sweep away. calyxa
  • Duplicating content is not a good idea. Search engines can penalize one or all sites where duplicate content is found. daoine
  • I know from personal experience that I am always happy to hear from someone that one of my lenses is considered good enough to be blessed. It is a great confidence booster and that is one of the great elements of the social ’structure’ of Squidoo. It is nice to know that someone is looking out for you. EverythingMouse
  • A lens doesn’t have to be full of technical whizz bangs, or overly long but what is there should be diamond bright and grab my attention. flaminglacer
  • The angels are lensmasters like you who volunteered and were selected by HQ to serve for a few months reading and evaluating lenses. They are sort of the class monitors of the term, making sure that spammy lenses don’t stay on Squidoo long and that good ones are recognized and rewarded. That’s a tall order to fill, and that’s why they are called Angels — it takes almost super-human strength. Jimmie

Tip Me…Please!?

Tip JarAfter reflection and a conversation with a friend and mentor on Squidoo, I wanted to share with you my ‘new’ thoughts about adding a tip jar on your lenses. Consider these points and ponder:

Is your lens offering something that warrants a tip?

Think of this in the sense of the ‘real world’ of tipping. You go to a restaurant and get less then stellar service, would you tip? Your new hairdresser made you feel like a hundred bucks, you were shakin’ your stuff as you headed outta the salon, did you leave her a tip?

How does your ‘gut’ feel when you add a tip jar on your lens?

If it hurts, you might want to hold off and polish your share until you can honestly say, dag nab it I’d like someone to buy me a cup of coffee for my efforts. Or better yet, if it still aches, perhaps you’d like to err on the side of intuition and don’t add it at all.

When you see a tip jar somewhere as you are venturing around Squidoo or on the Internet, what pops into your head?

Think about whether it is really worth the effort and cost to your ‘customers’ that visit your page.

Put yourself in the place of a person that lands on your lens, squeeze your feet into their shoes. For instance, what do you think about putting a jar on; shopping or the new TWTTRSTRM? Would a person really leave a tip if they are already considering buying from you or pay you to leave a tweet?

In Closing and just so you know!

I really appreciate the creativity and heart behind the lens by Squidster’s Add A Tip Jar To Your Lens. In fact, I have added one to my Girl Friday lens…however, and don’t you agree, in the wrong hands this could turn into foolishery!

Emotions and Actions!

Obama Inauguration 2009 Poster

Today was a mix of emotions for me that included joy for our country and hope that things will look up for each and everyone of us. As I watched all the footsteps of the Inauguration of Our 44th President and mulled over what will be happening in the next few months, feelings of anticipation surfaced that were rather surprising and overwhelming. Instead of sitting and stewing, I opted to quash some of these feelings of angst and headed online to interact and take part in this most historical event. Tonight brings good thoughts for tomorrow!

Through My Lens!

Just in case you’ve not figured it out yet…I love Squidoo! The best part is wandering around the halls and finding things that give me a resounding ‘ah ha’! Well Terri got me the other day, with her lens, Zooming in on the small things! What an absolutely delightful read that had me grabbing my Kodak and heading out the door…dogs, goats, and the cat following and acting rather confused by my shoo as I worked at getting the micro view of our daily venture. Poor babies :)

So as I was letting go and honing into the small things on our hike I had a most excellent ah-ha moment, an epiphany, which was an especially exciting moment for someone like me that can jolt out of a solid sleep thinking about the stupid satellite bill I forgot to pay. It’s those small things, through my lens, that can bring joy, insight, and balance to a world of stress and insanity.

Thank you Terri…this is my share to Zooming in on the small things
