From the moment I was six I felt sexy. And let me tell you it was hell, sheer hell, waiting to do something about it. ~Bette Davis

No worries! Just wanted you to know that if you are browsing through Squidoo with your profile set on “G” you might be missing out on the more adult topics posted. True, true the ‘X’ topics are long gone or at least I think they are :O

Anywho if you’d like to browse as an adult make sure to check your profile settings, simple as that.

Giant Squid Open Mike: How to get Backlinks with Alex Crabtree
AJ | August 7, 2010 | 1:16 am | Squidoo | 7 Comments

On Tuesday 03 August Alex Crabtree joined Joan and Kate on Giant Squid Open Mike to discuss how to get quality backlinks.

Kate asked if you had to join a lot of directories to get backlinks and Alex said no, the most important thing is to make sure you have good content. That way other bloggers and website owners will refer to your site with a good link.

Alex explained that backlinks are a great aid to navigation. They help people to find more information about their search topic and they also help the Google spiders determine quality sites, which will help with Page Rank.

Dofollow blogs are a great source of backlinks – most blogs require commentors to add a webpage link in order to comment. Leave a comment that is relevant and it gets indexed by the robots, which will follow the link.

Joan asked how often you should do this and Alex said it depends how much time you have but not to worry about doing more than 3 or 4 a day. They agreed that you have to select which lenses you are going to promote and just do it for one or two lenses a week as for those of us who have a lot of lenses, it will be impossible to promote very many each week.

Kate, Joan and Alex also discussed how easy it is to lose your focus if you get too embroiled in Web 2.0 networking. You can get trapped into feeling you have to keep up with so many networks that you spend all your time networking and not enough time publishing.

You need to find blogs that are relevant to your niche and keep visiting them, so you can build up a credible reputation.Blogs that allow CommentLuv are especially useful as it can help with traffic back to your blog.

Alex reminded us that each blog post has a permalink and it is these that you should post in your comments on other relevant blogs, NOT your blog home page. This will also help with indexing and establishing your reputation as a quality blog with Google.

There’s lots more tips from Alex in this excellent broadcast – I really recommend that you get yourself a cup of coffee (or tea :) ) and allow yourself 30 minutes to listen. You may like to have a notebook handy!

Although, this was the “first Tuesday” broadcast which I generally do with Alex, I was away for a few days and my slot on Giant Squid Open Mike will be next Tuesday August 10, when I will be talking about what it is like for someone who is English and living in England and who spends a lot of time publishing and networking on what is primarily an American site.

Move forward with your Halloween niche and market it on SquidBoo – The Creepiest, Kookiest, Altogether Ookiest… place to design a lens on Squidoo!

Do your research about Halloween keywords, then get to building your lens now to get ahead of the holiday rush. I have already noticed increased hits on my Halloween lenses that I built last year.

Please leave a link or two to your SquidBoo lens right here for all of us to ‘drool’ over and comment on! Make sure to drop off your referral link for Squidoo too…because I think it is important that people have a familiar face to hook up with if they aren’t Squidooing yet!!

As I move forward with my 30 day blogging challenge here on Squid Report I’d like to ask the readers to let me know if there is anything you need help with, desire more information on…you name it and I’ll do my darn best to get it found for you! Thank you so much for reading, replying and being a friend of Squid Report!

Get Inspired – Write!

Writer: Not Crazy Just in Rewrites print

Extreme Writing Now is officially open – off and running with a full start! Did I hear you asking, “What is Extreme Writing Now?”. Good because here is the scoop from owner Alex Crabtree…

Extreme Writing Now began as a single author writing blog in August of 2009. In June
of 2010, the site was transformed to a social network for writers; more like a corner pub.
All members are given access to posting and, revenue generated by their posts, at the
blog. Included in the EWN network are many groups that support authors and writers in
numerous ways.

EWN is all about flash fiction, memoirs, freelance writing, poetry, prose, 55 word fiction,
and writing in general. EWN is a laid back community of fun and relaxation that caters
to the writer in everybody. No pressure; just tons of support and love in true Bohemian
style. Why not join our merry band of budding writers at EWN? It’s free, it’s fun, and it’s
delicious!

Alex and each one of us involved at Extreme Writing Now invites you to come check out this diverse and magical writing community. Listen in at BlogTalkRadio too…this Sunday July 25, 2010 is the inaugural opening of Extreme Writing Now Network (EWNN)!! <—Mark it on your calendars!

What do you have to share with the Extreme Writing Now community?

————————————————————————————————

This Squid Reporter is slowly but surely becoming addicted to writing 55 word flash fiction.  This is my first entry, which is a bit sexy and shocking!

Parental Descent
Spent. Her lavender oiled body spilling, his legs entwined. The crisp cottony sheets rumpled, tangled binding them together.

Moon drops of light sprinkle the room. Glistening bodies illuminated. Breathless sounds and motion exposed.

Kisses that whisper their secrets excite the sated moment. Tangling them closer.

Tranquil passion shattered seeing the toddler walk from the room.
